Quick &easy craft- Stitched leaves

This is a super easy activity to organise with materials that you may already have or that are readily available and it makes for a great boredom buster too!

You need:

  • fresh leaves- they need to still be soft and not dried out

  • needle

  • stringing material-this could be embroidery thread, ribbon, string or cotton

  • beads-these are optional but they add an extra texture and extend the activity a little longer, you could also use sequins that have holes in them.

To get started simply thread your needle and tie a knot at the end. Then stitch patterns, shapes, numbers, letters -There are no rules! Keep stitching until you are happy with your design. Add beads or sequins as you go or at the end.

Once finished the leaves can be used as decorations or natural bookmarks. It is interesting to watch how they change over time, as the leaf dries out.

This is a great activity for improving fine motor skills, it boosts concentration and encourages imagination. It can be enjoyed by children of all ages and is perfect for mixed aged groups.

Happy creating!
